Good tidings and cheer emanated from members of JASA’s Starrett Senior Center during their annual winter holiday concert on December 22nd and then their holiday party on December 28th (which celebrated Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, the New Year and anyone’s birthday that fell between October, November and December.) For the month of December, the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club was transformed into a festive atmosphere with snowflakes, red and green ribbons and so much more commemorating all of the holidays.
During the revelries, many of the seniors donned their most festive attire from snowflake covered sweaters to bright red and green attire. At the winter holiday concert, JASA’s Unity Singers sang jovial classics, such as ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Jingle Bells’ to an enthusiastic group of seniors.
The celebrations did not stop there! JASA’s grand holiday party had music by DJ Michael Minsky, goodie bags, raffles and dancing. JASA’s Director, Angela Blyakher coordinated the events, which even included a delicious buffet table. Seniors were treated to dreidel-shaped cookies with JASA’s logo on it, artisan pastries, candy canes, fruit, crackers, chips and an assortment of snack food. Blyakher believed the holiday party and concert were a huge success. “I was happy to see all the bright smiles on the seniors’ faces as they danced with their friends,” Blyakher said.
“Everything was amazing, from the singing to the wonderful desserts,” said Ruth Horowitz, President of JASA. Ever year Horowitz looks forward to the holiday party, so that she could listen to the beautiful holiday musical renditions sung by JASA Unity Singers.
Each of the celebrations were filled with pure delight, bringing in a pleasant New Year for all in attendance.
