On April 18th, the East New York community and Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) residents were invited to don their Easter bonnets with all the frills to the Pre-Easter Luncheon and Hat Pageant in the Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) gymnasium. This third annual ex-travaganza was hosted by Community Leader Nikki Lucas and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.

The BSC’s gymnasium was brimming with people wearing their finest attire for this fun-filled event. Music reverberated all around the room, which was transformed into a beautiful dining hall with balloons and tables covered in white linen cloths and bright spring flowers. After a brief introduction from Lucas and re-marks from Jefferies, attendees were served water, apple cider, and delicious food catered by Fusion East.

Once everyone finished eating their lunch, Lisa Lashley, Esq. introduced the Kings County Supreme Court Justices Carolyn Wade, Ingrid Joseph, Robin Shears, and Lisa S. Ottley, who were judging the hat pageant.

Every year, the PATHSDANCE from Performing Arts & Technology High School entertains guests at the Pre-Easter celebration. This year the star -studded group of teens performed a routine from the Broadway play, Amen Corner. The spirited reenactment had many of the revelers feeling like they were already attending Sunday mass with its powerful music and spectacular choreography. In addition to dance routines, audience members were also treated to musical renditions from the Penn Wortman Choir, a saxophonist, and a live DJ.

From 1 pm to 6 pm, the Pre-Easter Celebration was an absolute hit. The day culminated with the hat pageant modeling and judging. There were also raffles for attendees to participate in for more chances to win prizes.
