Last week, JASA Starrett Senior Center hosted two fun-filled events for its members in the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC), which was comprised of a delicious Rosh Hashanah lunch with goodie bags on September 20th and their quarterly birthday party for those born in July, August and September on September 26th.
JASA Director, Anjelika Blyakher, decided to kick off the Jewish New Year with a special luncheon within the BSC’s cafeteria. On the menu was Challah, honey, apples, and other scrumptious delicacies. The entire event was a relaxing occasion, where seniors ate, and laughed with one another and discussed the particulars of Rosh Hashanah and why it is a very important holiday in the Jewish religion.
The next party was an all-out birthday extravaganza filled with music, dancing and a buffet table covered with desserts. International singer, Ricky Penn, serenaded the birthday celebrants with her colorful guitar and lovely voice. The seniors danced to tunes like the Electric Slide and other boogie tunes that had the members shimming and shaking all across the BSC’s multipurpose room.
Both events encouraged seniors to maintain healthy, active lifestyles and the importance of socializing. Blyakher hosts several events like these and would like to offer a welcoming hand to any senior who would like to participate in JASA’s fun activities.
Upcoming Jewish holidays in October are: Sukkot (October 5-6), Shmini Atzeret (Oct 12th) and Simchat Torah (October 13th).
