Hip Hop Review: Chris Brown’s ‘X’ to debut high on Billboard’s 200 Chart; Announces Tour With Trey Songz

Things are finally looking good for multi-platinum Grammy Award winning singer Chris Brown, aka Breezy, after having a rough year. It’s been a difficult 12 months for the 25-year-old Virginia native – marred with jail time, court-ordered rehab and constant album delays.

But his comeback album is finally here. ‘X’ arrived in stores on September 16. The star-studded set boasts the hit single “Loyal,” plus collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, R. Kelly, Usher, Brandy, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Trey Songz. Breezy seems to be winning over critics and being forgiven for his past mistakes.

Breezy and Kendrick Lamar come together for the sorrowful tune, “Autumn Leaves”. In the song, Breezy challenges the pain of moving him. He and current girlfriend, aspiring model and fashion stylist Karrueche Tran, have been dating on and off since 2011. In 2012, he broke up with her and started dating his ex-Rihanna again. That same year, he announced that he had ended his relationship with Tran because he didn’t “want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna”. Things still didn’t work out for Brown and Rihanna the second time around so he ran back to Tran and the twosome seems to be doing just fine these days. Lamar appeared just past the midway point on the song with another dope verse.

On his explicit collaboration with R. Kelly, “Drown In It” the Prince of R&B (Chris Brown) meets the King of R&B (R. Kelly); they share steamy lyrics over a slow jamming beat. This is a love-making track for adults.

‘X’ is projected to debut high on the Billboard 200 chart. In fact, the album is vying for number one against Barbra Streisand. According to Hits Daily Double, “the album is on track to sell 120,000 copies in its first week.”

Chris Brown and Trey Songz fans are in for a special treat, literally!  The two powerhouse singers are teaming up for a joint tour. They will hit the road this fall.

Chris brown broke the news on Twitter, writing “This fall is gonna be legendary! Get ready for me and Trey Songz tour.”

To add more excitement to the news about their tour, both singers posted videos of themselves on Instagram talking about the tour.  A name for the tour has yet to be chosen, but they have called on their fans to help pick a name.

Chris and Trey performed together alongside R&B singer August Alsina at the BET Awards 2014 this past June.

Did ‘X’ mark the post with critics? Is Brown back on track to becoming our modern day Michael Jackson?
