STAYING HEALTHY IN THE NEW YEAR and LIVING A LONGER AND HEALTHIER LIFE

1.     Regular medical care helps you stay healthy.  Don’t waituntil you are sick to see your doctor. 

2.     Be Tobacco Free – quitting greatly lowers your risk of heart disease, stroke and cancer and protects those around you from second-hand smoke

3.     Be Physically Active and Eat a Healthy Diet – Get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least 5 times a week

4.     Be Heart Healthy – Get your Blood Pressure and cholesterol checked regularly and get screened if you are at risk of diabetes.  Take all medications your doctor prescribes.  Maintain a healthy weight.

5.     Recognize and Treat Depression.  It’s normal to feel down once in a while a holidays can be especially stressful for many people.  Feeling down for more than two weeks may be a sign of depression.

6.     Reduce Risky Alcohol Use and Drug Dependence   Help is available if you need it.

7.     Prevent and Detect Cancer – Know warnings signs and get regular check-ups.

PARRANDA NAVIDENA

Tuesday, December 30th @ 1:30 p.m.

The Spring Creek Towers Service Coordinator, in collaboration with Spring Creek Senior Partners, will host the first Parranda Navidena

A Parranda is like a surprise serenade during the holidays.  We are excited to play salsa, bachata, merengue, guaracha, boleros music and more.  While enjoying the music, you will be able to sample some delicious rice and bread puddings accompanied by Coquito of course! 

Anyone with an instrument, guitar, maracas, tambourines etc. is welcomed to join in the festivities in Spring Creek Senior Partners’ conference room at 160 Schroeders Avenue (G5) 3 p.m. sharp.  We would like to have live music, so if there are any musicians interested in volunteering for this event please call the Spring Creek Towers Service Coordinator at 718/642.1058 for further information. 

El 30 de Diciembre la Coordinadora de Servicio de Spring Creek Towers en colaboración con Spring Creek Senior Partners les presenta la primera Parranda Navideña. Una Parranda es como una serenata de sorpresa durante los días festivos. Estamos muy contentos de tocar música salsa, bachata, merengue, guaracha , boleros y más. Mientras disfruta de la música, usted será capaz de probar un poco de delicioso arroz y pan dulce acompañados de Coquito, por supuesto! Cualquiera con un instrumento, guitar, maracas, panderetas etc., es bienvenido a participar en las festividades en la oficina de Spring Creek Senior Partners 160 Schroeders Avenue (G5) a las tres de la tarde (3:00pm). Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Bring your friends, neighbors and celebrate with us for a fun-filled afternoon.


 

EVENT: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, Tuesday, Dec. 9 @ 1:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn Sports Club. Are you prepared in case of an environmental disaster or emergency? What do you and your family need to know and do to be prepared? Lenny James from the NYC Department for the Aging will provide information specifically for seniors on what you need to know and be prepared.

Your safety is important to us. If you have any special needs, equipment or have difficulty getting around, please let us know. Call us at 718/348.7620 and we can discuss ways to assist you.

You must be able to get on and off buses without assistance; if you are bringing any walking devices (cane, walkers, rollators) you must be able to get them on and off the bus as well. If you reserve and then cannot attend, please let us know a week in advance. Seats are not guaranteed until you receive a confirmation phone call. Spring Creek Senior Partners is a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community/Supportive Service Program (NORC/SSP) and we serve all residents who are 60 years or older. .
