April 22nd is Earth Day, and this year’s theme is climate action, which focuses on understanding our environment and how we can make our world more habitable.
We can all celebrate Earth Day digitally by partaking in various activities from home:
- Digital Teach-Ins: This form of climate education and activism is a meaningful way to address environmental issues by using online meeting platforms such as Zoom, Skype or Google Hangouts or live-streaming services such as Youtube or Facebook Live so that you can host discussion to educate your friends, family, and neighbors on the effects of climate change, promote better environmental behavior, and empower the people in your neighborhood to make those changes.
- Tune into Earth Day online, for the first time this event will be celebrated digitally by visiting: earthday.org/earth-day-live/ You can learn more about the science involved in the rising tide of climate change and how activists are working to make a change.
- Stay engaged and practice citizen science through the Earth Challenge 2020 mobile application (available on Apple App Store and Google Play). Learn about air quality, plastic waste, and recycling.
- The San Diego Zoo is hosting a Virtual Earth Day Celebration from April 13 to April 22nd, where you can observe animal behavior through the zoo’s live cams! There is even a virtual scavenger hunt and coloring pages to download on their website: https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/earth-day
