On February 24th, the world celebrated the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and their friends at the Staple Center in Los Angeles. Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter and their friends: Payton Chester, 13; Sarah Chester, 45; Alyssa Altobelli, 14; Keri Altobelli, 46; John Altobelli, 56; Christina Mauser, 38; and Zobayan, 50 were all killed in a helicopter crash on January 26th in Calabasas, California. The news shook the world of basketball fans, and those who saw Bryant as a hero.
To express solidarity with the memorial, students at Frederick Douglass Academy (FDA) VIII remembered those lost by donning Lakers and Mamba jerseys as well as other memorabilia. Some students simply wore white and black or purple and yellow clothing to commemorate Bryant and Gianna.
