The Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) organized a seminar called “Staying Healthy in the New Year: Resources in Your Community” 2017 on January 26th, 2017 at the Brooklyn Sports Club. This was a great success! Over eighty seniors Spring Creek Towers (SCT) residents attended the event.
There were representatives from 21 local organizations to speak to the seniors about the services that they can offer to them. Some of the organizations that were on hand were: the NYC Department for the Aging, Brooklyn Public Library’s Spring Creek Branch, JASA Starrett City Senior Center, Brooklyn Sports Club, Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, ScriptDirect, NYC Medical Doctor PC, several Home Care agencies, LiveOn NY, and others.
There were blood pressure screenings, nutrition information, and dental care information which was offered by doctors from Brookdale. Spring Creek Senior Partners had a table with information about their services as well as their numerous volunteer opportunities.
NYS Senator Roxanne Persaud attended the event, spending time not only with the many seniors present but talking at length to the presenting organizations and hearing about the services that they offer.
After gathering the information, the seniors had an opportunity to socialize; they were entertained by a balloon twister from Magical Memories Entertainment and participated in a raffle.
“The seniors attending and the organizations presenting expressed how grateful they were for the opportunity to be a part of the health and resource Fair. Health promotion activities are a cornerstone of the programs offered by SCSP NORC and we hope to make this an annual event,” said Theodora Ziongas, Executive Director of SCSP.
