Last month was National Volunteer Month, when community organizations like Spring Creek Senior Partners and JASA Starrett Senior Center celebrated the work volunteers do year-round.
JASA kicked off their ceremony with a dual party for both volunteers and their quarterly birthday bash for members (celebrating seniors born between January and April). The lively festivities included music, dancing, delicious food and goodie bags!
Spring Creek Senior Partners Recognizes Volunteers
BY THEODORA ZIONGAS
Spring Creek Senior Partners NORC SSP honored their dedicated volunteers at a special Volunteer Recognition Event held on Friday, April 24th, 2015 at the Brooklyn Sports Club.
The event, organized by the SCSP NORC Coordinator of Volunteers and Special Events, Rema Kabani, was a huge success and well attended. The theme was “AROUND THE WORLD” and we were celebrating the rich diversity of our community, our staff and volunteers. The entire staff of SCSP worked to help make the event a success and expressed great appreciation for the many volunteers of all ages. Volunteers were treated to a special luncheon, were given certificates of appreciation and a special gift recognizing their tireless dedication to the mission of SCSP. In attendance was Ms. Ruth Cordero, Director of Senior Housing Initiatives/NORC and Ms. Polly Thompson, Program Officer both from the NYC Department for the Aging ( the primary funder of NORC). Also Honorable Charles Barron from the NYS Assembly attended and was also representing his wife, Honorable Inez Barron, NYC Councilwoman. They have both been strong supporters of the NORC throughout the years. There was a special surprise appearance by Charlie Chaplin who entertained all those present.
