Gateway Intermediate School (IS) 364 held their first very own Pop-Up Shop on Saturday, February 2nd in the cafeteria of the school from 10am to 2pm. Now you might be wondering what is a Pop-Up Shop? A pop-up retail space is a venue that is temporary: the space could be a sample sale one day and host a private cocktail party the next evening. Pop-Up Shops started in Los Angeles and now pop up shops are all over the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia, according to Wikipedia.
This Pop-Up Shop was hosted by Ms. Chavis, Ms. Anderson and Ms. Cleckley-Lewis. These three women collected all of the brand new and gently used merchandise that was housed and distributed at the Pop-Up Shop. These women are a part of a School Safety Team that hosts Pop-Up Shops at various schools.
Well IS 364’s Pop-Up Shop consisted of different clothing garments, shoes, coats, sneakers, and boots. All of the merchan-dise was free for the community. Approximately 50 people came to the Pop-Up Shop.
IS 364 decided to hold this event as a way to give back to the community. The school notified families of the students about this Pop-Up Shop by sending flyers home with the students for their families, they emailed the families and they also had automated calls sent out to the families of the students.
Aimee Castro, Parent Coordi-nator said, “This was a very successful event. We received a lot of great feedback from the families in the community about this event.”
