JASA Hosts Annual Turkey Raffle

On November 20th, JASA Starrett Senior Center hosted their annual Turkey Raffle Giveaway, thanks to donations from New York State Senator Roxanne Persaud and New York Council Member Inez Barron. The raffle was held on the same day as JASA’s pre-Thanksgiving lunch, which offered large turkey legs, stuffing, string beans, and other kosher delicacies to all in attendance.

The entire cafeteria in the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) was decorated in autumn leaves, “Gobble til you wobble” signs, and other festive Thanksgiving adornments. Once everyone purchased their meals, they were each given a raffle ticket so they could write their names on it. JASA Starrett Director, Angela Blyakher and President of the Advisory Council, Ruth Horowitz took turns pulling out raffle names from a small bag. The raffle winners were presented with one of six turkeys ready to take home and cook, each weighing close to 25 pounds. Each winner whose name was announced had a pleasantly surprised look on their face when they proudly held up their poultry catch of the day. Winners were given a large turkey from either Turkey Valley Farms or a Honeysuckle White Turkey.
