Members of the JASA Starrett City Senior Center danced the afternoon away during their quarterly birthday party on March 30th.
Every three to four months, JASA’s senior center holds birthday parties to promote togetherness and to have fun, said Angela Blyakher, JASA’s Director. Last month’s event was a lively affair that included live music by David Glukh and Iouri Grichetchkine, dancing and exchanging gifts for those who celebrated their birthday in January, February or March. The group of older adults had a blast shaking their hips to the multicultural music performed by the piano and trumpet duo. Some seniors, like Pearl Brown, became so animated by the music that she grabbed the microphone and began singing along to the music.
Together they celebrated their youth and wished each other another year of good life, health and prosperity. Ruth Horowitz, the President of the Advisory Board for JASA, handed out small tokens of JASA’s affections to all those celebrating, and then the group sang “Happy Birthday.”
At the culmination of the party, the seniors were surprised with a Viennese table filled with hors d’oeuvres, artesian cookies, and an assortment of pastries.
