Love was in the air during JASA Starrett Senior Center’s first-ever Valentine’s Day weekend party on February 12th.
The lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) was a sight to behold: red heart decorations were scattered throughout the halls, colorful flowers were placed on top of the lunch tables and loud dance music emanated from the BSC’s multipurpose room.
Although the dismal weather brought snow and sleet, about 70 seniors attended the event. JASA Director Angela Blyakher was happy with the turnout despite the dreary weather. “I’m also grateful to BSC’s management for allowing us to use the facility during the weekend,” she said.
The Valentine’s Day party began with a delicious buffet filled with catered Chinese food, tantalizing appetizers and various snacks. “We had a Viennese table filled with artesian pastries and other sweets,” said Blyakher.
After the seniors enjoyed their afternoon meal, they burned off the calories by dancing to live music by Angela Labianco, a DJ who sings and plays the piano during her shows.
“All the members were having a great time eating and dancing. It was a great event,” said Blyakher.
