This new off Broadway musical, Sistas, centers on a family preparing to bury the matriarch of the family. These women discuss their family history and the history of African-American women through popular music that spans from the era of Billie Holiday’s music through Beyoncé. After the matriarch’s death, the women in the family clean their grandma’s attic and find some treasures which restore the love and memories that have been packed away. Some musical hits that you will hear include; “Oh Happy Day,” “Mama Said,” Gloria Gaynor’s ever-famous, “I Will Survive,” “Tyrone,” and “ A Woman’s Worth.”

The Rock and Roll Playhouse is a non-profit organization that presents musical education to children that they might not receive in school. Every weekend there will be a children’s music workshop this fall at the Brooklyn Bowl. These workshops are designed to teach children about music while allowing the children to have fun at the same time. Workshops are 60 minutes long and are specifically designed for children 7 and under, but all members of the family are welcome at this family show. Tickets are $10 per person. Kids will get to explore colors through the song “Yellow Submarine,” they will work as a team with “All Together Now” and will have fun with bubbles to “Octopus’s Garden.” This workshop has been designed to address educational firsts such as counting and letter sounds while having fun dancing to the music of The Beatles. This is sure to be a fun time for everyone!
