Next Gen Launch Titles

By Dean Moses

Ten years ago, few of us would have conceived a PlayStation 5 (PS5) or a Xbox Series X. Yet here we are, next month these two new video game consoles are releasing. The new systems from Sony and Microsoft respectively boost super-fast Solid-State Drives (SSD) and 4K technology, allowing for incredible graphics and swift loading times. If you were one of the lucky players who managed to snag a pre-order, you may be wondering what games will be available on launch day. That’s where we come in, the Spring Creek Sun has put together some of the best games you can play on your shiny new console day one.

Game: Spider-man: Miles Morales

Platform: PlayStation 5

Rating: T for Teen

Cost: $49.99

The follow up to Insomniac Games’ masterpiece is set to be a PS5 launch title. Instead of slipping into the tight suit of Peter Parker, this time we take on the role of a much younger, inexperienced Spider-Man named Miles Morales who is just finding his webbed feet. Thrust into an explosive attack by super villains in Harlem, our fresh-faced Spidey will be engaging in visually impressive battles and swinging around a 4K New York. To sweeten the deal even further, if you purchase the ultimate edition you will also gain access to the remastered version  of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-man, complete with a controversial new design of Peter Parker (who looks a lot like actor Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films). Releasing on November 12th.

Game: Assassins Creed: Valhalla

Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows

Rating: M for Mature

Cost: $49.99 to $69.99

While Spider-man is a Sony exclusive, Assassins Creed: Valhalla is coming to both parties, including current gen systems and next gen consoles. Here we take the role of either a male or female Viking in a wide-open Norse world. Battles include bloody sword and axe combat, while also incorporating ship warfare. Many gamers have been calling for this time period in the franchise for years, and developer Ubisoft looks to please fans going to a new set of consoles. Releasing on November 10th.

Game: Tetris Effect: Connected

Platform: Xbox Series X

Rating: E for Everyone

Cost: $39.99

This Xbox Series X launch exclusive may not sound like a first choice to start your next generation experience, however, as a fan of Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch the possibilities here are vast. With flashy visuals and an online co-op and versus modes, Tetris Effect: Connected could well be the latest hidden gem for Xbox. Releasing on November 10th.

Game: Demon Souls

Platform: PlayStation 5

Rating: M for Mature

Cost: $69.99

Going from an Xbox exclusive to a PS5 exclusive, Demon Souls is a complete remake of the game that got the legendary series started. Here we create our own adventurer and embark on a dark descent into a world brimming with magic and a whole host of bizarre monsters. The difficulty of these gam titles are well-recognized among gamers and also well-loved. Dying repeatedly with friends in Demon Souls time and time again will be a treat, albeit a frustrating one, for many. Releasing on Nov 12th.
