Pokémon has been around for a long time, it has spawned trading cards, cartoons, movies and video games. Thanks to Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, it is clear that the 17-year-old franchise is not going away anytime soon.
The World We Live In
If you have ever played a Pokémon game you will know what to expect. The player must choose whether to play as either a young boy or girl, give that young person a name and then begin their adventure in the open world. But before you can explore the vast landscapes and meet the many interesting people who inhabit those places, you must make one very important decision, pick your first Pokémon. In this world there are many hundreds of creatures called Pokémon, they fill the skies, streets and seas of the places you visit, much like the animals in our world. It is the gamer’s job to catch, train and befriend as many of these little guys as possible, and, in time become the greatest Pokémon trainer ever, so who will be your first companion?
In the beginning there are three creatures to select from, a water type, a fire type and a grass type. In this game there are all sorts of animal-like fellows, each with their own skills. In order for them to level up and learn more powers they must battle other Pokémon, either wild or belonging to another trainer, and that is where the types come in. A water type can beat a fire type, and a fire type can beat a grass type, thus making your first pick even harder, no matter who you pick, he or she will be weak when fighting a certain type. So the player must catch more friends and build up a diverse team if they have any hope of reaching their goal.
Returning to familiar territory
Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby are remakes of the similarly titled Ruby and Sapphire, released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advanced. The visuals, however, could not be more different. The environments are now fully 3D, the Pokémon themselves no longer feel like cardboard cutouts, they spring to life with cute animations and colorful attacks. For a game overflowing with fantasy critters, the world they live in is surprisingly realistic, rain pours down over regions, and there are dark forests, beautiful beaches and dry deserts. The game even mirrors the real world time. So, if you play at 12 am, it will be midnight in the game, darkness will have fallen, the towns will by lit by lamp lights, the gamer will truly feel at home in this virtual life.
A menace to society
Even in this tranquil place the form of Team Magma or Team Aqua (depending on whether you are playing Ruby or Sapphire.) They wish to use the poor Pokémon for their own evil agenda. It is up to you and your team of up to six pets to stop all the would be evil doers and make sure all the Pokémon are able to live in peace with humans and work together with each other.
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby offers hours of fun for all ages, battle and trade caught characters online, dress them up and partake in talent shows, fly around on the back of flying type Pokémon, or just stroll around and see what you can find, either way fun is sure to be had.
