PS 346 Kindergarteners are Off and Away to First Grade

On June 20th, Abe Stark Primary School (PS) 346 trans-formed their auditorium into a Dr. Seuss wonderland for their kindergarten stepping up ceremony. The entire atmosphere was indicative of the famed children’s author, complete with bright colored balloons, flamboyant streamers, encouraging quotes, and even directional posts with signs stating: Where to go? Here? There? Everywhere? First Grade!

The elementary school often stresses the importance of reading, both in school and at home. So it was no surprise that this year’s stepping up ceremony concentrated on the literary classic “Oh the Places You’ll Go” thanks to artistic assistance from PS 346 teacher, Ms. Scott. The event began with a rousing Pledge of Allegiance and segued into a series of fun songs, such as the “Grease Graduation Song,” “Can’t Stop this Feeling,” “Love Train” and so much more.

All of the kindergarteners were dressed in bright yellow shirts with even brighter smiles etched across their faces. Some children donned ribbons in their hair, while others wore their very best bejeweled sneakers with glitter and glow lights.

Once the ceremony culminated, Principal Kevin Caifa thanked all of the teachers, office staff and the continuous contributions from the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). He also reminded parents that stepping up to the first grade is only the beginning; they must be diligent in their child’s attendance and daily reading activities to help pave the way for a successful future.
