The auditorium at PS 346 was all decked out in blue and white in anticipation of the fifth grade graduation. This group of 10 and 11 year olds were moving from elementary school to middle school. Parents, siblings and family members were all smiles waiting for the start of the commencement ceremony. Families held balloons, flowers and even some waved pom-poms excitedly.

At last the students entered the auditorium to a procession by the NYPD Jazz band. This was a treat as New York’s finest took time out of their busy schedule to participate in PS 346’s Fifth Grade Graduation. As the ceremony started everyone rose for the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by the Star Spangled Banner (performed by the Spring Creek Youth Symphony).

Principal, Mr. Caifa addressed the families of the graduates with an inspiring speech. The fifth grade class sang, “What I Am” and then Giovanni Wilson gave a speech to his classmates. “The teachers did everything in their power to prepare us for the sixth grade. When we look back when we graduate from college we will think, WOW what a great start that we had,” said Wilson. This celebration included a speech from the PTA and a musical rendition of “Hall of Fame” performed by the Class of 2017. Jada Mason addressed her classmates, which preceded the presentation of the diplomas to the Class of 2017.
