The sun was shining and the music was pumping in the basketball courts just outside of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) for “Safety Sunday” on August 4th sponsored by Jack Jaffa & Associates with participation from NYPD’s 75th precinct, FDNY and Spring Creek Towers’ Department of Public Safety.
Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) residents were able to register their bikes with the NYPD’s 75th precinct which reinforced bike safety. SCT residents who registered their children’s bicycle received a free bike helmet, which was provided by JaffaCares, a community safety initiative created by Jack Jaffa & Associates. In addition to bike safety, residents signed up to receive stove knob covers that are used for fire safety prevention.
FDNY had a tent set up with firefighter hats for kids, mini firetrucks, booklets and pencils to hand out to residents. In addition to the tent, FDNY had an actual firetruck on site for children to look at and to take photos with the firefighters.
State Senator Roxanne Persaud’s office had a tent set up with information for residents. Senator Persaud attended the event and showed her support to the SCT community.
At 3 pm the exhibition basketball game was held, which had members of NYPD’s 75th precinct, SCT Department of Public Safety Officers play against SCT residents, who were coached by members of SCT’s Teen Central Program. The teams were Orange Wave and Prime. Gavin Edey of SCT Teen Central coached the teams while SCT resident, Donovan White refereed them.
SCT residents Gavin Edey and Kristopher Carroll emceed the basketball game and had everyone laughing and having a good time with their quick witted humor which added to the game. All in all everyone had a great time!
Congratulations to Orange Wave who won the game against Prime with a score of 54 to 50.
