On September 30th, Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) hosted a mask and Farmer’s Market Voucher distribution outside of their office at 160 Schroeders Ave. Both the coupons and masks were donated by the Department for the Aging (DFTA).
To be eligible for the Farmer’s Market Voucher, residents had to meet specific income qualifications, which were set by DFTA. Individuals who met those qualifications received a $20 coupon to use at their local Farmer’s Market. SCSP staff spread the news about this event by contacting hundreds of older adults to discern who would be eligible. According to SCSP, about 400 seniors signed up for the event and approximately 336 attended.
In total, 336 coupons were distributed along with 2,000 masks. SCSP Director, Ronald Jean was pleased with the turnout and hopes to hold another mask distribution this month, allowing the remaining 64 Farmer’s Market Vouchers to be handed out. In addition, SCSP is working with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI) to provide transportation to the Farmer’s Market for seniors who may need assistance.
