On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, the seniors gathered at the Spring Creek Senior Partners office to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This crowd of thirty seniors could not wait to enjoy the festivities. Some of them dressed for the occasion in red or pink. Malika Djabbarkhodjaeva, Coordinator of Volunteers and Special Projects conducted the games for the seniors.

The seniors played five games. The first game was Perfect Match, where the seniors were given cards with words that were used for pairs, for example salt and pepper, Bonnie and Clyde. Other games that the seniors played were: Valentine’s Day Word Search, Valentine’s Day Word Scramble, then they were given the game Find Five Differences. The seniors worked in pairs on these games and when they were done instead of holding up their hands and saying they were done, they were told to say “Happy Valentine’s Day.” The last game that the seniors played was called Left-Right Story, this game allowed the seniors to pay attention and to concentrate, which they found to be a lot of fun. Malika read a story to them and whenever she mentioned left or right they had to pass the box of Valentine’s Day candy either to the left or to the right. Chuckles came from the seniors when someone mixed up their left or their right, but it was all in fun.

SCSP2After the last game was played, then things started to heat up. Seniors were treated to some light refreshments of chocolate covered strawberries, cheese and crackers. Then the music came on and some of the seniors proceeded to start dancing to “Happy” and some other musical medleys.

One of the seniors, Mable McArthur enjoyed this event. “This is the first time that I have come to one of the events at Spring Creek Senior Partners and I am having a great time.” McArthur enjoyed all of the fun games and the atmosphere at this Valentine’s Day party. “I have never played the left, right story before and I enjoyed it. This game requires that you have to be focused. I thought this party was fun and I really enjoyed the great atmosphere and all of the people here are really nice. I will definitely come back for some of the future events that they will be holding,” said McArthur.

“Valentine’s Day is an annual celebration of love, friendship and in some parts of the world; it is a celebration of good health and the coming spring. We are honoring all of these traditions today and wish all of our seniors the best,” said Theodora Ziongas, Executive Director of Spring Creek Senior Partners.
