Spring Creek Towers’ Residents Help Save Lives

IMG_5123One of the most beautiful things about humanity is our ability to empathize and help others. In doing so, sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference.

On June 13th, residents of Spring Creek Towers (SCT) upheld the giving spirit by donating their blood in the sixth annual Community Blood Drive.

Throughout the day, a steady flow of people stopped by the New York Blood Center’s (NYBC) temporary collection area in the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC). Some were members of the BSC who finished their workouts while others were reoccurring donors. Over the years the NYBC, (a non-profit organization that collects blood citywide) says SCT’s drive has produced enough donations to help save the lives of more than 120 people.

Rebecca Caraballo, President of the Starrett City Tenants Association (SCTA) and blood drive organizer, spent the morning setting up a table filled with delicious sandwiches, fruits, spicy lemonade and other goodies for the potential donors. During the event, she said that she was happy to see many new and familiar faces and she hopes to double, if not triple, the amount of people who stop by to donate next year.

This community blood drive was the sixth co-sponsored by the Starrett City Tenants Association (SCTA) and the Spring Creek Towers Office of Public Affairs/Community Relations; in conjunction with NYBC.
