The students in the Spring Creek Youth Symphony performed a mini holiday concert on December 22, 2016 at 5pm in the cafeteria of IS 364. The Spring Creek Youth Symphony is comprised of twentytwo students which range from second graders to eighth graders. These students have learned to play; the clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, violinists, violas and also the drums.
These students worked really hard to learn their instruments and prepare for this show for their families and friends. They have been rehearsing every week for three hours once a week, in preparation for this show. In two and a half months these students have learned how to read music, play their instruments and perform for their families and friends. This shows their dedication and ability to adapt to learning new things outside of the classrooms. Practicing for the show allowed the students to show everyone how much they learned in a very short Spring Creek Youth Symphony Performs Holiday Concert period of time. This half hour show included a variety of music with the main focus on the holiday season including: the Spring Creek March, Frere Jacques, Christmas March, and Jingle Bells. Jingle bells received the most favorable response from the audience of approximately thirty people.
“The students performed wonderfully. They are making constant improvements and we are looking forward to our next concert in March,” said Musical Director, Mark Thrasher.
