Students enrolled in the Spring Creek Youth Symphony took the stage at PS 346 on Thursday, May 23rd for their Spring Concert. These kids performed and showed how much their lessons and practicing paid off.

The full orchestra opened up their concert with the Spring Creek March. There were some solos performed by students who have been in the program for a number of years. There are 15 children currently enrolled in the Spring Creek Youth Symphony. These children are taught to read music and to play the music.

The young musicians’ family and friends filled the auditorium and applauded each set that was played. Spring Creek Youth Sym-phony Conductor, Mark Thrasher briefed the attendees about each musical selection.

Thrasher and Drum instructor, Martin Fischer explained to the audience what the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival is, and they proudly stated that four musicians from the Spring Creek Youth Symphony participated in NYSSMA and received Outstanding or Excellent ratings.

This Spring Concert clearly shows the progress that the students have made since the beginning of the school year. The full orchestra concluded the Spring Concert with the theme from the movie Rocky, “Gonna Fly Now.”
The four members of the Spring Creek Youth Symphony who were participants in this year’s NYSSMA festival are two drummers (Elissa Robinson and Arony Aguero) and two trumpet players (Elias Rivera and Jeremy Wells). These students will be featured in the next issue of the Spring Creek Sun on June 14th.
