Girl Scout Cookie season has begun early at Spring Creek Towers! Members of the Starrett City Girl Scouts troops kicked off the cookie season with a delicious bang at the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) on February 18th.
Instead of sleeping in during their midwinter recess, the troops gathered their forces and set up a small booth next to the BSC’s reception desk, where they piled boxes upon boxes of cookies for all members and guests to purchase. Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, and Caddetts donned their uniforms and eagerly greeted onlookers with the promise of a great “cheat day” snack. The cookie brands offered for $5 per box were: Lemon-Up, Samoas, Thin Mints, Trefoils, Do-si-Dos, Tagalongs, and their newest flavors (sold at$6) were Toffee-Tastic and S’mores.
One scout told a potential customer that the S’mores were the most popular snack her friends pack in their school lunches, and she was sure the customer’s daughter would love it. These young entrepreneurs have been facing low cookie sales, but during the kickoff at the BSC guests were enthralled by their efforts, purchasing cookies by the case!
Troop Leader Pamela Schwartz told the Spring Creek Sun that the money earned during the cookie sales were used for scout funding, such as trips, art supplies, projects, and to help pay for monthly dues for some members facing financial difficulty. Schwartz is hoping to take the girls to either Dorney Park or Legoland this summer with some of the funding.
The cookie sales end in April, so don’t waste time and buy now! The Starett City Girl Scouts will be hosting two more booth sales in front of Abe Stark Primary School (PS) 346 on March 18th and March 27th from 2:20 pm to 4:20 pm.
